Delivery Team Lead

Reporting to the Delivery Manager, this position would ideally suit an individual who enjoys technical, agile methodology and people challenges within a fast-paced environment, who has the ability to successfully lead a team of developers and deputise for the Delivery Manager.

The role will involve ensuring any blockers or issues impacting delivery are raised and communicated to the Delivery Manager in a timely and efficient manner, whilst managing, motivating and developing the technical capability and pastoral needs of the team.

Key relationships

You are here to work with the team to ensure we create applications and features that conceptually meet the customers’ needs whilst also creating a maintainable technical approach that embraces modern working practices. It is vital that you are actively involved with the product team in all design and implementation phases to enhance the quality of what is delivered.

Key responsibilities

50% of time will be spent on core development activities, working on cutting edge features designed to disrupt the market and challenge mature processes. The sprints are short and focus on progressive enhancement.  We have opportunities in the following areas:

  • Azure (App Services, Serverless functions and Cosmos DB)
  • Native (React Native, Android and iOS)
  • AI, Machine learning and decision problems
  • Continuous delivery
  • Web (MVC, HTML5, CSS and JavaScript)
  • C#, .NET Core
  • Embedded software solutions (firmware/hardware integrations)

The rest of the Team Lead responsibilities will consist of the following:

  • Embed development methodologies within the Development Team to ensure quality product reaches market in a timely, consistent, repeatable manner
  • Facilitate technical ownership and issue resolution
  • Line manage a team of Developers; mentor, guide and coach, train and onboard
  • Champion change and demonstrate key leadership behaviours
  • Ensure that the Delivery Manager is kept abreast of ongoing development work, communicating early where issues are anticipated that could potentially impact delivery
  • Ensure development is coordinated with the wider development team, any issues which need assistance are escalated and staffing issues are discussed
  • Agree and sign off with product owner product requirements prior to development work being undertaken
  • Work closely with Testing Lead to ensure deliverables and strategy are aligned
  • Key stakeholder management
  • Proposing and maintaining and industry best practice
  • Champion Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment processes
  • Collaborate with the other Squads and provide example for what good looks like
  • Highlight to the Delivery Manager any keys risks impacting ability to delivery body of work in sprint

Skills and experience

  • Educated to degree standard or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience in developing software is essential as is a sound understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Expertise in implementing/working within an agile development environment (Scrum/Kanban/Lean)
  • Excellent technical aptitude and focus combined with outstanding communication and pastoral skills and love working a part of a strong team
  • Practical experience in SQL, C#, or Front-End Web Development (MVC (C#)/Restful services)
  • Commercial focus on delivery and ability to build successful business relationships
  • Continuous drive for learning new ways of being more productive and efficient
  • Ideal candidates will be motivated and excited to take responsibility for large parts of our applications
