Orange National Business Awards 2009

Mitrefinch continue to demonstrate innovation in the Orange National Business Awards ‘Best Use of Technology’ category

Mitrefinch continue to demonstrate innovation by being recognised as a regional Finalist in the Orange National Business Awards 2009 ‘Best Use of Technology’ category.  The National Business Awards Regional Programme, sponsored by Orange, is acknowledged as the UK’s leading showcase for achievement in business.

Mitrefinch achieved recognition for their work with existing customer The Balloon Tree, a local farm shop, developing their existing Time and Attendance solution to cater for the unique requirements of that business.

The Balloon Tree grows and sells fruit and vegetables on 2 sites in North Yorkshire. In peak harvest season, they employ a high number of temporary and student workers. The Balloon Tree recognized a need to calculate the profitability of the crops grown on the farm. To do this they had to accurately record and analyse the costs of the farm, focusing on each individual crop, and the labour costs involved with each.

Mitrefinch provided a rugged Time & Attendance PDA solution which allowed staff to clock on to a particular job on a particular crop and plot. This information is then used to calculate farm costs for the crop involved, and feed that data directly into their payroll to ensure accurate remuneration, and to assist with staff allocation and roster planning.

“This year’s finalists are a stimulating mix of established businesses and new entrepreneurial ventures with a common thread running through them all - resilience and determination to succeed. The appetite for recognition amongst the UK’s business community is perhaps stronger than ever, as we’ve seen a 20 per cent rise in the number of companies entering for these awards. It is really satisfying that all of those that entered have faith and confidence in their ability to continue to operate to an excellent standard, further feeding the positive messages emerging about an upturn in the economy. Orange would like to wish all the finalists ongoing success”, said Martin Lyne, Director for Small and Medium Enterprise, Orange.

Mitrefinch CEO, Debbie Guppy, said "Mitrefinch is delighted to be recognised in the Best Use of Technology category.  It is a testament to our ongoing investment in innovative solutions and our continued desire to push ourselves forwards as a business"
