Aerospace firm reap 40k annual savings with TMS

Penny and Giles was founded in 1955 from a partnership formed between Professor William A. Penny MBE and Mr James A. Giles. Professor Penny and Mr Giles had identified a demand for instrumentation in the aviation industry; in particular for high precision reliable wire-wound potentiometric devices and aircraft accident data recorders, more popularly known as 'Black Boxes'. penny_giles_3.jpeg

Since then, Penny and Giles has continued developing new technologies and products for diverse markets such as aerospace instrumentation, professional broadcasting and recording, controllers for agricultural equipment, construction vehicles, powered wheelchairs and sensors for motor racing.

The Company, which employs over 400 staff is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Curtiss-Wright Corporation (New Jersey) and is based at two sites - one in Christchurch, Dorset and the other in Cwmfelinfach, Gwent. Currently the Company uses Mitrefinch's TMS , Flexipay Payroll , HR Manager and Access Control systems.

Prior to the installation of these systems, the Company had evaluated several options. Chris Pritchard, Finance Director at Penny and Giles, says: "We considered the Mitrefinch solution to be the most flexible and capable of meeting our time and attendance and HR information needs."

Penny and Giles has found the Mitrefinch systems to be highly beneficial. In addition to greater payroll accuracy, the systems have made it easier for management to identify issues before they become problems. Chris comments: "As a consequence of fully implementing TMS, we have realised in excess of £40k of annual recurring cost savings and we plan to upgrade the system in the future to ensure that we can reap the benefits of the latest technology."

Mitrefinch Access Control enables companies to monitor all access attempts at specified points throughout their sites and allows access only to authorised personnel. Chris says: "As many of Penny and Giles' products are used in aerospace related application, it is of paramount importance for the Company to secure its premises and protect its products and personnel."

Access Control also helps organisations comply with Health and Safety regulations by allowing supervisors to view real-time reports showing which personnel are on site at any given time.
